I’m building the first 97 Overdrive to show off. It’s really cool… very simple overdrive with a great sound and an ever greater pricetag. Super small “A” sized case for tight pedalboards. Silicon/Germanium hybrid!

Starting on Some New Designs
Just got a special request for a new design. It will be a dual wah/filter thing. Basic premise is simple enough… going to see about adding dual LFOs for more “fun”.
Also… I think I’m going to come up with a redux of the classic Boss HM-2. These are long out of production, though they are still readily available for cheap on the used market. Because of their undeniable influence on such a wide variety of cool tones from the late 80′s/early 90′s, I think they deserve a “boutique” homage. Planned improvements include the ubiquitous True Bypass and an added Mid control. Funny thing about the HM-2: there’s already a Midrange circuit in there – it’s just tied in with the Hi control so you’re adjusting both Hi and Mid simultaneously. I’m going to pull it off the Hi control and give it its own knob for more control. I’m also going to see about giving the gain control some better range. As it is now, within about 10 degrees rotation, the HM-2′s gain control seems to go from almost off to full up. I’ll see what can be done to give that a better feel, and perhaps extend it’s low-gain capabilities (it can get some GREAT overdrive at low gain).

Overdrive Testing
Took the new tube overdrive proto to jam with some friends tonight. It sounded great through a silverface Fender – very natural and dynamic. Got the tone controls doing what I want now, but it’s still a bit noisy… need to see what can be done about that, and then it will be ready to go!

Updates
Got alot of stuff added to the main site today. Pages for the MultiRange Boost, Burning Discharge, Modulux, and Echo Sol have been added. A contact form has also been added so you can easily get ahold of me.

New Tube Overdrive
I’ve been working for the past month on a new tube overdrive pedal. I’m very excited about this one! It is based around a surplus 1Ж29 tube (very easy to get), which has some great properties that make this circuit unique compared to other tube overdrives. For one, the current demands of the tube are extremely low… less than 40mA (less than many delay pedals!), and it’s designed to run on a lower voltage. The prototype is currently using 28v for the B+ supply and it works great, without any of the “starved” sound so many tubes get when run at too low of a voltage. I’m currently tweaking out the last details of the power supply and tone controls, and once that’s done, it should be ready to go.
